Next Sunday (November 27th) is Advent Sunday and we start this penitential season with our annual Advent Carol Service at 6pm.
The service is beautiful, mysterious and dramatic. We start with a church in darkness and gradually move to a church full of light as we wait in joyful expectation for His coming. This year, the liturgy will be woven around the ancient “O” Antiphons, which remind us of a different name for the Messiah (Wisdom, Emmanuel, Root of Jesse etc.) O Come, O Come Emmanuel is the last of the “O” Antiphon titles for Jesus. One of those services to bring your families and friends to.
During the service, some of the music sung by the Choir of St Mary's, Maldon will include: A Spotless Rose by Howells, Nun komm der heiden Heiland by Scheidt and Christ the Apple Tree by Poston to name just a few.
