This Sunday, St Mary’s Choir is joined by the choir of St Mary Magdalene, Richmond for our monthly Choral Evensong. This is a return visit, St Mary’s choir having sung in Richmond on 10th June.
Not only will the congregation be able to enjoy a really full choral sound; the music is very special this month. too. The canticles are the rarely heard Canticles in G by Thomas Dunhill. They were first performed in Westminster Abbey in July 1917, so our performance will, therefore, be a centenary one.
The anthem is S. S. Wesley’s monumental Ascribe unto the Lord, which the choir will be singing on tour later in July in Bavaria.
Our speaker is the Rector of Aldeburgh, Mark Lowther, who formerly worked for BBC radio 3.
Please stay for refreshments and a chat following the service. With this splendid weather, it’s a great opportunity to enjoy the wonderful view from the churchyard and patio.
